HOPE

Hope is a ray of sun breaking through a darkened sky filled with clouds

A rose still blooming on a cold fall day

A robin walking on snow covered ground



Hope is in words of comfort spoken around a hospital bed

A spontaneous hug given by a child

A rainbow circling around from ground to ground



Hope is in the flickering candle that breaks into darkness

A first spring blossom bursting out in colour

A red stoplight with it's cycle of colours



Hope is in a baby of virgin birth born into a dark world

Trusting God to keep every promise

Resting in His peace and love

Unexpected Beauty

There is snow and then there is fluffy snow. Today everything is becoming frosted in freshness as large flakes waft down steadily. With little wind blowing, the flakes are settling on top of everything, sticking evenly and outlining what is beneath. No longer is the ice, sand and salt visible, as beauty is everywhere. I chose this morning to enjoy the beauty. I know the slippery ice is still there as well as all the dirt and grime from yesterday. Yet I would be missing out on fresh joy if I focused instead on the ice. I'm thinking too of the loses in life that are out of my control to change. It's one thing to feel sad and mourn that loss but it's my choice whether to focus on it totally or look for fresh beauty. Today I want to start a "Beautiful" list, topped by today's snowfall and the names of special people in my life. After that, only time will tell what I will add as I intentionally look for beauty all around me.

Who's the CEO around here?

Mom was moved to a lovely palliative care room right beside the elevator.  The nurses wondered if there was some confusion....the angry words.....confusion about time.....saying that her mind was swirling. We hoped for a better day to come. Yesterday I spent the afternoon, listening to stories, to dreams, to the ideas swirling in her head,  feeling privileged  to jot down some of her words. We started telling this story to visitors stopping by. She was angry about the move, how the flowers were left behind on the window sill, how her things were not in the same place, how she couldn't reach the call bell.  She took it out on the nurses, even though they were taking care of details as fast as they could.  Most of her time that day, she said, was spent working on words for the hospital CEO.  She wanted to give him a piece of her mind, venting about how things were being run around the place. One Word for 2013

My one word is FULLY..... Full is defined as "completely filled, containing all that can be held, complete, well-supplied", and so much more. I'm choosing the adverb of full because I want to be more fully in the moment, to be more fully there for people, to be more fully engaged with my emotions.....and the list goes on. It's an area that I feel I'm lacking in, so I press on, wanting more fullness in my life. I'm still in the fog, still squinting and peering, yet clinging to the hope in this word: FULLY. We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us! 1 Corinthians 13:12
